Meet Amy from our Design Lounge team

Helping you create your dream home is our passion and the Design Lounge is our state-of-the-art hub where our team of experts work closely with you to bring your vision to life.

We’ve been speaking to our team of Selections Design Consultants to find out more about how they help customers bring their vision to life.

This week we spoke to Amy Langdon, who joined our team earlier this year, bringing with her four years of design experience. Here’s what she had to say …

Amy joined our team earlier this year, bringing with her four years of design experience.

Tell us about your job – What does a typical day look like?

I mainly work on the kitchen design, helping customers choose everything from cupboards to countertops, appliances and flooring.

When the customer comes in, we start with a tour of the Design Lounge and talk them through the whole process so they know what to expect.

It usually takes around three hours to go through the kitchen. We’ll change the layout, then look at colour and style choices.

We make the day really special, offering drinks and a buffet lunch. We know what a huge occasion it is for people to design their dream home, so we make the experience as smooth, seamless and personal as possible.

In between customer visits, I spend time checking quotes, working on new standard layouts for our new developments and working closely with our kitchen supplier Omega to keep up with the latest product launches and trends.

How do you help customers bring their dream home to life?

I typically start by asking customers if they prefer a modern or traditional look, as it’s a good starting point for what kind of style they like.

I ask lots of questions to build a picture about the customer’s lifestyle, whether it’s a busy family looking for a practical, child and pet friendly kitchen, or a customer who wants to create a space perfect for entertaining, I can help them design a space which works for them and their needs.

What’s is the best thing about your role?

Seeing customers smiling and enjoying their day. I especially enjoy seeing customers who come in not really knowing what they want and leave having created a home they absolutely love.

Amy has been working in kitchen, bathroom and bedroom design since she was 17.

What is your favourite interior design trend at the moment?

I really like the contemporary farmhouse style, incorporating traditional Victorian features such as herringbone, limestone and neutral colours, with black and brassy accents to add a modern twist.

What is your favourite upgrade?

It has to be the limewashed oak herringbone LVT flooring – it immediately elevates any home and is worth every penny.

You know it’ll never go out of style and it offers a range of tones from grey to oak and the warm limestone, so it goes with whatever colour scheme you’ve chosen for the worktops and cupboards.

You can also take it right through into the utility and hallway which adds cohesion throughout.

What trends are you expecting to see next season?

I think we’ll be seeing more walnut being used as an accent colour in kitchens. It looks especially good paired with gold hardware to create a warm industrial feel.

What attracted you to join Beal Homes?

I’ve been working in kitchen, bathroom and bedroom design since I was 17, and have always loved it. Knowing that I am helping people design their forever home is an amazing feeling.

One of the things which really attracted me to Beal was seeing the Design Lounge building. I would drive past it every day on the way to my previous job and would always try to peek inside to look at the amazing interiors.

When I came for my interview, I saw the attention to detail in everything. Everyone was so friendly and I knew Beal was a company I wanted to be involved with.

What do you do to relax away from work?

I’ve been figure skating since I was 13 and practice three times a week before work. I also enjoy lifestyle drawing and gardening.
