The Internet of Things: How Gadgets and Gizmos Became a Reality

Community

It’s something we’ve become used to as part of living in the modern age: change, everywhere we look. This is no more true than of the home, where a new gadget or gizmo is seemingly released to enhance our lives every time we refresh our Twitter feed (which you’ve chromecasted onto a 52” plasma screen.)

These rapidly developing new technologies are filling our homes quicker than a new episode on Netflix automatically starts, but the big question remains: how does this change the way we live?

Let’s take a look at some of the most renowned names in the ‘Robot Revolution’...

  1. Smart Energy Management - excellent, efficient, environmental. This eco-warrior’s dream was one of the very first visions in the Internet of Things project, with ‘smart’ thermostats from Google and others adjusting to the user’s preferences.
  2. Self-Tending Gardens - another environmentally-friendly triumph, the Garden which cares for itself also only gives itself as much water as is necessary, meaning there’s none wasted, with personalised advice available direct to your iPhone (other brands are available).
  3. Smart Lighting - gadgets such as the ‘Hue’ from Phillips allow homeowners to alter the lighting in their living area based on their mood (meaning romance isn’t dead, it seems.)

The list certainly doesn’t end there - whether it’s security, showers or stereos that you want to ‘supe up’. For many, the Internet of Things might take away from the beauty of everyday activities that some love - such as spending a Sunday morning looking after the garden, whilst sipping an iced tea (Ok, so the iced tea is just us then.)

There’s one fact we can all agree on - how we live our lives is constantly affected by the way technology moves. Of course, if you prefer to keep a more traditional ‘lid’ on your home, you can shut out the technology as fast as you can welcome it in. With us, you can have as much or as little as you like.

Here at Beal Homes, you decide on the elements that make up your new living space. It’s your home, we just help create it. We’re here to help you make your vision for your new bespoke home a reality.
